Clydesdale Outpost’s Emerging Filmmaker Contest

Welcome to Clydesdale Outpost’s Emerging Filmmaker Contest, where filmmakers of all levels are invited to share their talents while experiencing the tranquility of our cozy cabins and the graceful presence of Clydesdale horses.

Our contest seeks to foster and create a heartfelt and impactful short film that highlights the beauty of Clydesdales and the beautiful nature of Montana.

 

This is a chance to craft a meaningful story, connect with nature, and embark on a memorable filmmaking journey. Join us in celebrating the art of filmmaking in a unique and inspiring contest.

 

Submission Guidelines:

  • Eligibility: Participants must ensure that they meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the contest rules. The organizers reserve the right to disqualify any submission that does not meet these criteria. Applicants must be 18 years or older.

  • Theme: Each submission must revolve around a heartfelt storyline that prominently features a Clydesdale horse or Clydesdale horses. The story should be original, unique, and realistically producible within a budget of $5,000.00.

  • Team: Submissions must include a Director, Writer (who can be the same person), Producer, and Editor. Please provide a concise biography and contact information for each team member.

  • Crew and Equipment: Include information about the key crew members involved in the project, such as a cinematographer, sound designer, and any other essential roles. Specify the equipment to be used for production, emphasizing accessibility and affordability.

  • Budget: A detailed budget breakdown is required, demonstrating how the $5,000.00 budget will be allocated for various production aspects, including equipment, props, locations, cast, crew, and post-production.

  • Script: Submissions must include a complete and original script that showcases the heartfelt Clydesdale horse-themed story. The script should be no longer than 5 pages and should reflect the feasibility of production within the budget.

  • Viral Potential: In a separate document, explain how your film has the potential to go viral. Describe any unique and creative elements that you believe will capture the audience's attention and generate online buzz.

Judging Criteria:

Entries will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Originality and Creativity: Assessing the uniqueness of the story and its creative approach to incorporating Clydesdale horse(s).

  • Feasibility: Evaluating the ability to realistically produce the film within the budget of $5,000.00.

  • Storytelling: Evaluating the quality of the script, including character development, plot, and emotional impact. A complete short story structure with well-rounded characters is expected.

  • Technical Execution: Assessing the quality of cinematography, sound, and overall production values.

  • Viral Potential: Evaluating the potential for the film to engage audiences and generate viral interest upon online release.

 

Winner will Receive:

  • Greenlight: We green light the production of your short with a $5,000.00 film budget to bring your film to life, announced on Clydesdale Outpost's website and social media. Funds will be paid out during production to applicable parties.

  • Economy Airfare Tickets: For the writer, director, and Producer to Glacier Park International Airport for filming at Clydesdale Outpost.

  • Lodging: Provided by Clydesdale Outpost during production at the ranch.

Submission Deadline:

The deadline for submissions is December 31, 2023. All submissions must be postmarked by this date.

Winner Announcement:

One winner will be announced on March 1st, 2024, on Clydesdale Outpost’s Facebook and Instagram pages.

Production:

The winner will work with Clydesdale Outpost to begin production of the short film in late April and May of 2024, with a final cut due on May 31st, 2024.

Submission Fee:

A submission fee of $75.00 is required.

How to Submit:

All submissions should be mailed to Clydesdale Outpost, Attention: Filmmaker Contest, 100 Outpost Drive Whitefish MT 59937. Include a brief cover letter with your contact information and your pitch packet, which should consist of:

  • Team: Director, Writer, Producer & Editor information (Director and writer positions may be the same person).

  • Script: A professionally formatted short screenplay (5 pages maximum).

  • Budget: A detailed budget not exceeding $5,000.00.

  • Crew & Equipment: Additional crew and connections to equipment or details on how you plan to find crew.

  • Viral Potential: Description of why you think your story could go viral and create buzz around Clydesdale Outpost.

  • Fee: A check made payable to Clydesdale Outpost for $75.00.

By participating in Clydesdale Outpost’s Emerging Filmmaker Contest, emerging filmmakers have the opportunity to showcase their talent, gain exposure, and contribute to the world of heartfelt storytelling while working within a limited budget. By participating in Clydesdale Outpost’s Emerging Filmmaker Contest, all participants, including filmmakers, writers, directors, and producers, acknowledge and agree to the following terms and conditions:

  • Eligibility: Participants must ensure that they meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the contest rules. The organizers reserve the right to disqualify any submission that does not meet these criteria.

  • Ownership: All submitted materials, including scripts, films, and associated intellectual property, become the sole property of Clydesdale Outpost upon submission. Participants hereby transfer all rights, title, and interest in and to the submitted materials to Clydesdale Outpost, including but not limited to copyright, trademark, and any other intellectual property rights. Participants retain no further rights or claims to their submitted materials.

  • Rights Clearance: Participants are responsible for obtaining all necessary rights, permissions, and releases for any third-party content, including music, images, or any other copyrighted material, used in their submissions. The organizers are not responsible for any copyright infringement or legal issues arising from submitted materials.

  • Film Production: The winner of the contest's first prize, which includes a $5,000.00 film budget, agrees to use the funds exclusively for the production of the winning film. Any deviations from this agreement must be discussed and approved by Clydesdale Outpost in advance.

  • Travel and Lodging: The winners of airfare tickets and lodging provided by Clydesdale Outpost will work with Clydesdale Outpost on travel arrangements but may be responsible for their travel arrangements, including visa requirements and travel insurance. Clydesdale Outpost is not liable for any travel-related issues or incidents during travel.

  • Submission Fee: The submission fee of $75.00 is non-refundable and must be included with the submission. Clydesdale Outpost is not responsible for any lost, damaged, or delayed submissions.

  • Contest Modifications: Clydesdale Outpost reserves the right to modify or cancel the contest or its rules at any time without prior notice. Such modifications will be communicated to all participants as soon as possible.

  • Liability: Participants release Clydesdale Outpost and its affiliates, officers, employees, and agents from any liability or claims arising out of their participation in the contest. Participants are responsible for their safety and well-being during any contest
